The church bell chimed till it rang 29 times for each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald
2025 marks the 50th year of the tragic sinking of the giant ore freighter Edmund Fitzgerald.
The ship remains at the bottom of Lake Superior and is the gravesite of the 29 sailors who perished November 10, 1975.
Gordon Lightfoot’s classic hit song The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald was nominated for two Grammy awards.
Lightfoot and the 29 families were part of the dedication of a ships bell replica engraved with the 29 names.
Gordon Lightfoot passed away May 1, 2023. Now, the ship and song are being remembered with concerts by The Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Band.
The tribute band was established in 1996 with a personal endorsement by Gordon Lightfoot.
